Dear Dan, Please know you are in my prayers for your speedy recovery. Your music
has always played a special part in my life, and so many memories come flooding
back with each and every song. Thank you for your beautiful lyrics and
emotion-filled music. You have a unique and wonderful gift. Thank you for
sharing this with all of us. Praying for you and your family. ~ Barb
Dan, I still listen almost daily to your "Twin Sons" album and this will
forever be a part of my life. I cannot hear "The Power of Gold" without thinking about a certain anorexic woman with whom I lived during my
sophomore year of college. We played this album until it played no more,
bought another one, taped it and wore these out as well. I still have the
tape and play in regularly.
You are forever in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and your
family.
Hello, Dan! I was quite surprised to learn of your diagnosis during a recent
visit to your web site and feel compelled to reach out. I, too, have been
diagnosed with prostate cancer. This has occurred in the last few weeks and I am
exploring options for intervention and self-educating. I don't know how long
you've been coping, but I am quickly understanding some of the challenges in
doing so. I have been a forever-fan and have seen you live in several settings in Massachusetts every chance I've had. I consider you one of the greatest lyricists of our time to say nothing of the incredible music you have set your words to. It always leaves me wanting to hear more from you and reaches to my very soul. Perhaps now I know why we haven't heard more. I want to extend my heartfelt wishes to you and your family for the best of health you can attain. This disease we have cannot kill our Spirit. Thank you for reaching out with your caring message on your site to other men as well as your music. I am still expecting to hear alot more from you. God's blessing to you and yours. Most sincerely ~
Vaughn Harding
Dear Dan, I was grocery shopping this morning and heard one of your "elevator songs" and it made me smile listening to your sweet voice. It
also made me sad to know that you have had to put on hold indefinitely what
you always loved -- doing.your music. I've always loved your radio hits, but I
feel the real treasures are all the other songs on your albums that aren't
as well known. Your music is timeless and touches my heart like no other.
Just want you to know that I continue to pray for you and your family and
hope you are doing well. ~ Sherry from TN
Dan you have been in my prayers since your diagnosis was made public. I am a die hard fan - your music and lyrics have molded me. Please give us an update on your progress. Much love ~ Peggy
Dear Dan...... I'm 27 and, despite being probably one of your younger fans, have been
following you for years. Just wanted to take a moment and say Thank You so much
for all you've given this world. Truly, they don't make 'em like you anymore.
I'm sure many people come here and tell you how much they hope you'll be able
to write and tour again; however, I simply want to wish you all the best and
let you know I'm pulling for you...all music aside. So take care and,
indeed, let love be your guide.
Wishing you well friend ~
Kev
Dan,
I have been a fan for more than 30 years, and at 53 your songs still affect
me. To say I love your music is a profound understatement. I have rocked
babies to sleep with some of your soothing melodies and beautiful lyrics. I
saw you in Dallas in the 1980s. It was a true thrill for me..I will never
forget it. I pray that you will soon be healthy once again. Fight the good
fight, dear Dan, and know that you have a legion of fans thinking about you
and praying for you to be victorious over your illness. And thank you so
very much for writing songs that I will forever cherish..songs like yours
will never grow old. ~ Marcee
Dear Dan, Just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. I have been a fan and have enjoyed your music for the past 35 years, from vinyl records through cassettes to CDs. The times that I was able to see you in concert have continued to be happy memories for me. I am also a two-time survivor of cancer and know what you must be going through right now. I found that the thoughts and prayers of family and friends made a huge impact on my recovery, and judging from the messages I've read, you have the support of a great many people. Continue your fight and know that you have the support of many like me, whose lives have been immeasurably touched by your music. God bless. ~ Pat White, Pingree Grove, Il.
Your music and lyrics have been a part of our entire married life,
starting
with “ Longer” as our wedding song (going on 27 yrs.) so you’re a part of
our family too. Please know you and your family are in our prayers for
strength and healing! ~ G and W
As a fellow ex-Peorian, all I can say is; git better. We Peorians are a
eloquent bunch, no?
Seriously, I pray for the best for you. ~
Eric
Dan- Your music is still stirring the soul. We do
not want to pry, but you are a part of our lives, and we would love to know how
you are doing. ~ Sue
If love and prayers have any power at all, then we'll all be lucky that you have beat this disease. My husband had a very aggressive form of prostate cancer which was caught very early thanks to a very attentive health care provider. I cannot stress enough the value of the PSA and exam every year for men over 50, especially those with a family history. Every time I go to your site, I pray for good news. Every time I listen to your recordings, I say a prayer for you and your family (and that would be often.) I say a prayer of 'gratitude' as well because we'll always have your wonderful music. Thank you for letting all your fans share thoughts and well wishes with you.
God Bless you and keep you. ~ DJB in Kansas
Praying for your health and happiness and a resolution to your ailment.
God hears your prayers and we know that the prayer of a righteous man
availeth much. You are loved by many; never, never give in to darkness.
You have lit my life in too many ways to mention.
Dan--I've been a fan since the early 70s. Now I'm a rowdy 51 yr old grandma whose kids and grandkids also enjoy your music! My dad and father in law are survivors of prostate cancer......I wish men like you would do public service announcements for prostate cancer screening! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope each day brings you warmth, peace, and the blessings of friends and family.
Dear Dan, I'll keep praying for your speeding recovery. You and your music have
truly inspired me throughout the years, and will always. My favorite is "Make Love Stay." It represents so many things in my life and past loves. You keep writing these love songs, and I'll keep on buying them! The very best to you and yours. ~ Mary Jane Miles-KY
Dan, Wow. I've only learned of your situation recently and I'm just stunned. Your music has meant an awful lot to me, my wife, my brother and his wife for many years. We've seen you in concert many times. I truly hope you get well very soon. Good luck and God bless. ~ Tim Armstrong, Northport, NY
Dear Dan, I just want you and your lovely wife to know my family is still praying for your recovery. We are a family of your fans, and you have brought us joy though your music. God keep you, and heal you ~ Constance O'Banyon and family
Hey Dan, just wanted you to know you are still in my prayers for a speedy
recovery. I have written you before on this web site. I am a musician and songwriter from Edmond Oklahoma and have followed your work since Home Free. You were
the one who inspired me to play guitar some 30 years now and it's always been
great trying to emulate your playing style. I will never be able to live up to
your ability but thank you for giving me something to work at. I took my daughter
to see you twice in concert. She is also a fan, and now that I'm teaching my
grandson to play. I have no doubt he too will become a fan of your work. God bless
and God speed.Your friend~ Alan Davis
Dan I named my son after three people --Daniel in the bible, Dan Issel (from
Batavia, Illinois) and you. I want you to know that I credit you with my
learning to play the guitar. Your songs were so helpful in making learning fun it
was though you knew what I was going through in my life. I also progressed
spiritually always knowing there was more to life than we were being told. I will
add you in my prayers. I wish you a speedy recovery. ~
Danny
I was just relaxing and enjoying "The Reach" for how many million times, I can't
remember. How can I thank you for your passionate words and music? Your music has taken me through the darkest times in my life and brightened my best of days. I can only hope that the gift you have given your fans returns to you. I wish you only the best.
You've touched many lives with your words and music, Dan. My wife and I began dating during the time you were recording your first albums. Home Free and Captured Angel are "a part of us." Attended a few of your concerts, the best of which was your solo performance at the Grand Ole' Opry House in Nashville in the late 1970s. Prayers and best wishes for your recovery. ~ Mike Stroud, Murfreesboro, TN
Hi Dan,
I first fell in love with your music in 1976 at Purdue. I saw you in concert then and again many years later (several times) at the Radison Star in Merrillville, IN. I am now a physician and have used you as an example why men need a PSA and DRE. I hope you are doing well and beating the cancer. If prayers have power, I know you will be fine. ~ Lauren
Dan, You will never know how deeply your music has touched my soul for these last thirty five years, but I want to say thank you for sharing it with me and the rest of the world. Starting with Home Free, your music has always been close to my heart, carrying me through my trials, always reminding me to keep looking within for the strength to carry on. I love that it's so uplifting, that there is always hope and love will always win...after all, hope is all any of us has, Dan. Thank you for reminding us how much there really is.
I am so sorry to hear you are battling cancer. My sister and mother both had it so my best advice is to eat your dessert first, dude! I live in Houlton Maine, I work for Customs and Border Protection, and I volunteer for the Make a Wish Foundation in Maine. I have been divorced three times. I stay very busy taking care of my kids, working at the border and renovating my house. But "Lion's Share" is all about me, so I'll always continue looking forward. Thank you for your gifts of words and music to keep hope alive. May God bless you and keep you. Always ~ Nancy Gervais, Houlton, Maine
Get well soon Dan!
Our best wishes to you and your wife during this difficult time. Can't
express in words how much your words and music have meant to us.
You are in our prayers. ~

I was just strumming my guitar after dinner and "There's A Place...For A Gambler" just came out of the instrument. I went to your website to get the lyricism and found this link. My very best to you, I'm sure the last three years have been grueling, yet revealing.
Best Regards and get back in the saddle again soon ~
Tiger Kite
Dan and Jean and family,
I want to add my prayers for your wholeness and healing. I hold the vision
for you, Dan that you are whole, perfect, and complete, beyond whatever the
appearances look like right now. I know that your Spirit is infinite,
unlimited, and way more powerful than cancer! I am so grateful for your
amazing gifts which you share with the world. Peace and blessings ~ Karen
Mitchell.
Dear Dan--our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am a physician with a family
history of prostate ca, and I do get yearly psa's. Your music has meant so much
to us! My wife and I have been married 26 years---your song "Nether Lands" was our wedding dance song--not so much because we have some of the ancestry in our genes, but because it's such a beautiful song. Your CD's (albums way back when) are masterpieces: our favorite is "The Innocent Age"--absolutely stunning music still fresh today. We played this cassette in our car while we were on the road interviewing for my medical residency position. You have provided us with treasured memories! I have every album,cd,etc that you have made on my ipod. Please know you are loved and missed-hope you are able soon to begin recording again soon! ~ Denny and Kellee Reed
Hi Dan,
I was listening to "Windows and Walls" tonight and decided to look around the web and see if there was any news about you touring this spring and summer when I came upon your website. I am so sorry to hear that you have been battling cancer. Please know that you are in my prayers and the thoughts and prayers of all your fans. I have always loved your music and especially enjoyed your live shows. I've seen you at Westbury Music Fair and at Jones Beach on Long Island numerous times. I remember you coming out after the Westbury shows and signing autographs and talking with the fans and how much you seemed to be enjoying it. I hope you are winning the battle Dan. I hope someday you can be out there touring again. Your music has gotten me through some rough times. I hope everyone's prayers can help you through this extremely difficult time in your life. God Bless and be well. And thank you for all the music. Especially Windows and Walls--just an amazing album and a personal favorite of mine. Best wishes to you. ~ Vince Martell,
Oakdale, NY
Wow Dan,
Can't tell you how sorry I was to read of your illness. Your music has
touched me since I first heard Home Free. I listen to it often and
along
with Nether Lands they are two of my favorite vinyls and cassettes. I
believe I am on my third copy of Home Free now. :)
As a fellow musician whose dreams never reached the height of yours, I
thank
you for your music and want you to know it is part of me. Thanks to
some
older sisters, I found your music at a young age. I'm 40 years old now
and
will be going for my first real physical shortly . I don't mean to age
you,
but I want you to know your albums touched me even as a teenager. I
think
about the journeys I've taken with your music as my companion and I even
think of the presentation of a fine Stallion I once produced with your
music... not "Run for the Roses" as one might expect, but music from Twin Sons of
Different Mothers. Above all, I appreciate and thank you for your
writing,
your style and your humility. Thank you thank you thank you. Great
work
I'm glad I have the opportunity to thank you personally.
Cheers and best wishes ~

I grabbed the Souvenirs CD the other day and have been listening in the
car every day - I have a 1.5 hour drive to work each way. I have been
moved to tears by the beautiful songs you wrote. I cannot tell you how
much this has been a part of my life - when I was young, and even now -
I am 51. I decided to look you up on the web, and just found out that
you have this illness. I am very sorry for all that you are going
through, and have been through. I will pray for you to beat this
disease, and be able to enjoy more quality in your life.
I also want to say thank you so very much for the contributions you have
made to others through your music. You may not realize the influence
you have had on others, but I can assure you it has been great. We all
want to feel like our life has meaning, and I believe each life does.
But not all of us have such a far reaching effect to others through our
work - you did. God Bless you and your family - thank you again for all
that you have given to others. Sincerely ~ Maryanne
I have been a loyal fan since the 1970s when I was a student at
the
University of Illinois. In fact, when my family and I take any sort of
road trip, your CDs are included in the ones that I insist we listen to.
I sing along loudly (and badly, I might add) and your music makes the
driving more enjoyable. Thank you for that.
Like you, my father was a musician and conductor. He taught lower brass
and the History of Jazz at Quincy University in Quincy, IL, he played
piano in various jazz groups and was my 5 siblings and my first
instrumental teacher. And, yes, one went to Chicago and one to St.
Paul. I kid you not. (Three went to Austin, TX as musicians.)
I hope you are well and I wish you all the best. Thank you for the
music. You remain in my thoughts.
Best ~
Sue Winking
I was listening to "Souvenirs" yesterday, and wondered where
you were. You are responsible for some of my favorite
music.
I did a quick google search, and found DanFogelberg.com, and
found out about the APC... my best wishes to you and yours,
for healing and continued happiness.
Dan, you've been a favorite of mine and your songs an inspiration to me for over
30 years (I can't believe we're that old). My high school graduating class chose "Part of the Plan" as our senior song, and your albums were always blaring from our dorm room at college. One of my best memories is seeing you in concert in Biloxi with the Eagles in the 70's.
I lost my home and belongings to hurricane Katrina, but I was able to peel the covers off, and through tears, clean and save my albums. So many memories are connected with them, I couldn't let them go.
I wish you the best of luck. I took care of both of my parents through their battles with cancer, and I know you're facing a difficult time. Just know that you have millions of people, several generations, who continue to be inspired by your music.
Best wishes to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~
