From Dan's Official Site:

"Sunday, December 16

Dear friends, Dan left us this morning at 6:00 a.m . He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."

From The Living Legacy Site:

Dearest Friends and Loving Fans of Dan Fogelberg:

For 9 years you have supported Dan's gifts of music and lyrics through this website. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved artist. He indeed gave us a gift that we never can repay and he will always be in our hearts and souls.

Since Dan announced his cancer diagnosis in 2004, thousands and thousands of you had sent him wishes of encouragement, prayers and positive thoughts. He treasured each and every message. We had the honor of sending all of the wishes in book form to Dan so that he could read all this encouragement whenever he chose. We know these heartfelt prayers and tributes gave him and Jean strength, hope and comfort. You confirmed the strength and integrity of his musical legacy through your words over and over again. This legacy will remain forever within our hearts as we all continue to reflect upon the soundtracks of our lives when we listen to the music and share it with future generations. Dan's legacy will continue to shine forever.

Sincerely,
Deborah Jelinek and Laurie Williams
